Connecting With Our Environment

This week we have had lots of fun connecting our garden inquiry with our reading, writing and mathematics learning.

Pītau 1 have been very passionate about picking up rubbish around the school. Every morning tea and lunch time there is always a group of children out there collecting rubbish. We decided we have a rubbish problem at Bromley school!

During Maths this week we took some of this rubbish and began sorting and grouping it.

Check our our seesaw journals to learn what we discovered! Each group found different ways to sort and we began making statements about the data we had collected.

We worked on our second round of garden designs. This time we incorporated some of the ideas we had seen at Smith Street.

We worked hard to label our designs using our word banks and recording sounds we could hear.

During reading we used the Epic! app and looked at a text called "Let's Find Ads on Signs" This got us thinking. Could we make ads for the children of Bromley School about our rubbish problem?

We brainstormed ideas of what we wanted Bromley School to know about our rubbish problem.

We also got stuck into the garden and began clearing out some of the weeds.

This is going to keep us busy for a while!

Where to next?
How can we effectively inform the school about our rubbish problem and advocate for positive change?
