This week we went for a wander down the the Smith Street Community Gardens. As we are looking to redesign our own school garden we were on a mission to discover some great ideas we might be able to reproduce back at school.
When we arrived we met Willie who looks after things down here. He gave us a tour.
Click Read more to check out what we saw:
Raised beds with a variety of different vegetables and herbs.
Beans climbing up an old bed base.
Manaia and Ivy were very interested in these wire and stone planters. Could we make something like this?
We noticed lots of recycled items - like this toilet that made us all laugh!
"We could make a scarecrow like the Gardener and the scarecrow story!" - Adham
We even saw some beehives. We wondered would Mr Kinley let us have bees?
Planters growing strawberries and lettuce.
Tyres used to create boarders for gardens.
Willie let us help ourselves to the ripe feijoas that had fallen off the trees.
This was a great opportunity for us to get some more ideas on what we could achieve back at school. Willie gave us some bean seeds to plant and offered to deliver us some tyres if we want them.
Where to next?
Time to go back to school and sketch out some more designs.
What kinds of materials will we need?
What can we get for free or recycle?
How will we raise some money to complete our design?
Thats cool house of bricks is really fun i wonder what kind of cool stuff they made.
